The Improv

IMG_2047One of mine and Joel’s goals this year was to start going to stand up comedy shows. We love stand up, and live in a city full of professional and amateur comedians doing shows every night of the week, at a million different venues, so why not?

I follow the blog http://www.uproxx.com/filmdrunk/, and saw on the site that they were sponsoring a show at The Improv called Hour of Power Hour, for $5 a ticket and 2 items (food or drink). Pretty good deal, and a great date night out for me and my honey.

hourofpower22We used to visit this area of Melrose pretty often when we first moved to LA, so it was kind of nostalgic for us to be back. We got there early, found free parking in the near by neighborhoods and were able to enjoy some time in the bar before the show room opened.

IMG_2043With our tickets we had to each purchase 2 items, food or drink. So we had dinner in the bar area before going in, and by purchasing dinner before the show we got preferred seating in the showroom. I had the cheddar burger and Joel had the chicken wings, both great.

I got a superb rum and coke, and we sat next to a comedian we recognized but of course could not think of his name. The whole place has  been renovated and has a really cool, kind of, old Hollywood vibe, with pictures of the many famous comedians that have graced their stag one the walls. IMG_2046Our seats were so close to the stage, a stage where some of our favorite comedians have performed in the past, and we were in awe. The show was great, a lot of funny people, TJ Miller was our favorite.

We had a great time at The Improv and will definitely be going back, and to more comedy shows in the future.
